Simple but tons of fun!

Hey there! First off all, I enjoyed the game and appreciated the varying gameplay ideas that you implemented in the various levels. I did not expect this game to be this varied and was for instance legitimately tensed up during the "stealth" segment in which you have to find two keys to progress and beat the level. It was also a cool idea to have a grunt destroy a bridge, forcing the player to pick up the hammer and destroying the pillar. Of course nothing major to think about, but it's something different and I enjoy interactive environments like that!

The combat is a bit of a mixed bag for me. For one, I really enjoy the inspiration you took from Condemned Criminal Origins... at least I think you did. The movement controller was a bit floaty, but I think it complemented the weighty melee combat and slower gunplay. The sound effects were satisfying, but be careful with the loudness levels since the guns were a bit too loud. I enjoyed the ammo checking feature too, which made it easy to gauge how many shots I had left and if I should prematurely swap weapons or not.

But back to the melee combat, I think there is more work to be done, especially in terms of hit registration. I missed far too many swings with the hammer and axe specifically, while the shorter range weapons missed less frequently. The kick could also be buffed a bit by increasing the stun duration, or alternatively by making enemies ragdoll for a bit. The flaws with the melee system are most apparent during the boss fight! Even on easy the encounter was way too hard for me to complete. The boss also felt a bit cheap due to his increased mobility, making it almost impossible for me to get enough hits in to be able to kill him.

The level design was a bit bland at parts. I think some decals or a little bit of clutter in the hallways could have helped a tonne, but I don't know how much you can do with Unity in a browser. The highlights for me leveldesign whise must have been the stealth level and the time you get to use a shotgun. Overall you used lighting rather well in most levels, making lights lead the eyes and making me understand how some levels were supposed to be navigated or played.

All in all, I really enjoyed this game despite its flaws! I think you introduced an interesting interpretation of what Madness could be. This game might not be as bombastic as other Madness experiences, but this gloomy interpretation of this world is incredibly fitting. Excited for future FPS games from you if you plan on making any more :D

Fucking Amazing

This is by far, one of the best games on newgrounds.

Really love the artstyle and arcady gameplay!
